AT LAST #ENDSARSNOW GETS PRESIDENT BUHARI'S ATTENTION

When the federal government of Nigeria was creating the anti-robbery unit called the Special Anti Robbery Squad popularly called SARS, which comprises members police and military, the intention was to address the problem of robbery and other criminal activities in the society including kidnapping.

However, cries and complaints from activities of the squad in the past eight months became so loud that the hashtag #endsarsnow became trendy on social media. Pictures, Audio and Video excerpts abound on the internet showing how officers of the unit are involved in several misconducts ranging from harassment, extortion, assault and extra-judicial killings.

The Nigerian youth who are are the most affected have not ceased making their grievances known. While some of the youth have been accused of various vices especially internet fraud, robbery and drugs, most of the victims of the activities of men of the SARS are largely innocent people who are harassed and extorted on trump up charges.

The vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo while speaking at a town hall meeting at the launch of National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, Clinics in Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, said the president is concerned with the unit's conduct and has already ordered its review.

With these words of assurance from the vice president, the nation especially the youth and of course parents who have had to suffer for their ward's unjust treatments now have something to cheer about.
