ABEOKUTA: AS IT HAPPENED IN THE DAYS OF NOAH

The saying of the Holy book ''as it was in the days of Noah... '' readily comes to mind considering the continuous downpour of rain that has continued for four days.

The days of Noah in the scriptures is associated with flooding which caused the destruction of the then world due to non stop rainfall seems to be playing out in the Ogun State capital where lives and properties was said to have been lost.

On Friday 13th of July, the rain started gradually as it is usual during raining season in this part of the country without the residents of the city suspicious of the disaster that was ahead.

While the rain continued the water level rose in addition to poor drainage system, the aggregated water body which ordinarily could have found its level started pouring onto the streets and then into residential homes sacking people from their homes, destroying their properties and livelihood.

It is a common saying that water will always find its level,  but many time it does not only find its level but also carry with it anything in its path. It is therefore instructive that any activity in the path of water must be discouraged, and the government need to develop adequate drainage system that will help in the future to prevent or at the least minimize loss due to flooding.
