OJUDE OBA 2018-THE GATHERING OF THE IJEBUS HOME AND ABROAD

Awujale of Ijebu land 

Ojude Oba is a Yoruba festival held in Ijebu Ode, a town in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria.

It is held annually the third day after Eid al-Kabir. The festival began over 100 years ago when the Muslim community in Ijebu visited the then Awujale to show appreciation to him for allowing them the freedom to practice their religion.

Horse rider

Today, the festival is usually attended by over 250,000 people across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria as well as people in the diaspora. Ojude Oba is gradually attaining the status of a tourism attracting festival.

The festival is often sponsored by the incumbent Awujale, the people of Ijebu-Ode, individuals and corporate organizations.

The festival is held in the town of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State, South West, Nigeria. It is celebrated on the 3rd day of Eid al-Adha. The 2018 festival will be held on 24th of August, 2018.

Regberegbe

The Event is usually characterized by different groups parading to show off their colourful attires to the Awujale. There are different regberegbes(groups) from both the male and female folks. Both genders belonging to different age-grades will attempt to outwit each other employing different tactics to be declared the best. The winners are awarded cash prizes.

Balogun horse riding families

Different horse riding families go on display and are led by the Balogun. The Balogun is the descendants of Ijebu war heroes who executed wars. Some of the horse-riding families include Balogun Odunuga, Balogun Bello Odueyungbo Kuku, Balogun Agboola Alausa, Balogun Alatishe, Balogun Otubu, Balogun Adesoye, Balogun Odejayi, Balogun Adesoye Onasanya, Balogun Towobola, Balogun Aregbesola and Balogun Ajibike Odedina. Their entry is usually announced by intermittent gunshots which send almost everyone into a frenzy!
Ojude Oba also provide veritable environment for businesses to thrive as different brands are on exhibition to woodland customers to themselves.
